Maspeth, Queens, New York- Vincenzo Varvaro, 93, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning on September 2, 2023 at Long Island Jewish Forest Hills Hospital. Vincenzo was born on January 1, 1930 in Partanna, a very small town in Sicily, to Giuseppe and Giuseppina Varvaro. Vincenzo had two sisters and five brothers, came to the United States in 1960, and proudly became a naturalized citizen of the United States in April 1972. Vincenzo was married to his loving wife Antoinetta for more than 65 years. He is survived by three sons, Joseph, Charles, and Anthony, as well as six adoring grandchildren, Matthew, John, Julia, Andrew, Christopher, and Gina. Vincenzo was a member of Our Lady of Hope Church in Maspeth, Queens and a member of the Societa Concordia Partanna, a mutual aid society incorporated in 1906 dedicated to assisting immigrants obtain medical care and assimilate into American life. Vincenzo served the Societa in several roles with distinction, including as President, Vice President, and Member of the Board of Directors. Vincenzo worked for the United Nations for 30 years before retiring in 1990 to spend time with his wife and grandchildren. Viewing will be at D’Angelo Funeral Home II located at 64-18 Flushing Avenue, Maspeth, New York 11378 on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 and Wednesday, September 6, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at 9:45 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope Church located at 61-27 71st Street, Maspeth, New York 11378. The funeral will be directly followed by entombment at St John's Cemetery located at 80-01 Metropolitan Avenue, Middle Village, New York 11379.
