Raldson Ethelbert Thomas, known affectionately as "Thomas," aged 68, of Brooklyn, NY, departed this life on February 14, 2024, after complications that culminated in Cardiopulmonary Arrest.
Born on April 24, 1955, in Trinidad to John Thomas and Albertha Baird, Raldson's early life on the island was marked by his vibrant spirit and determination. After completing his high school education, he dedicated five years to serving the government of Trinidad and Tobago as a distinguished member of the police force, where he was renowned for his exceptional marksmanship.
In 1983, seeking new horizons, Raldson ventured to the United States, initially settling in Oklahoma. There, his passion for sports shone brightly as he joined a local football team, earning accolades and featuring in several local news articles. An avid lover of cricket and football (soccer), Raldson's enthusiasm for sports was infectious.
Eventually, Raldson's journey took him to Brooklyn, New York, where he reunited with his wife and, later, some of his children. Brooklyn became the backdrop for many cherished memories, where Raldson indulged in his love for music, literature, history, and documentaries. Many will fondly remember him for his joyous domino games and relaxed beer gatherings in front of his Brooklyn apartment, where he shared laughs, wisdom, and the occasional spirited debate.
Raldson was a true intellectual, always eager to dive into deep conversations with anyone who shared his curiosity about the world. He possessed a carefree spirit, a trait his brother Mab fondly captured by saying, “Raldson didn’t care if Sunday fell on Monday.” This attitude towards life allowed him to navigate its challenges with unparalleled ease and grace, making him a beacon of light and reason for those around him.
His passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him, but his legacy of wisdom, kindness, and unbridled joy for life will forever remain. Raldson's memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories shared by friends and family and the impact he made on every life he touched.
Raldson is survived by his loving family and a community of friends who were fortunate enough to know him. A celebration of his life will be announced, where we will honor his memory and the indelible mark he left on our hearts.
