Paweł Łodziński, born on January 16, 1947, in Warsaw, Poland, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2024. He was a loving father, husband, father-in-law, grandfather, and friend to many, whose kindness and joy for life touched everyone around him.
The son of Stanisława and Kazimierz Łodziński, and brother of Antek and Andrzej (Andzio), Pawel spent his childhood in the Mokotow area of Warsaw. He attended Liceum Reytana and later enrolled at the Warsaw School of Economics (SGPiS). In the late 1970s, he moved to the United States, where he spent many years working for LOT Polish Airlines, and eventually became the Director of Sales and Marketing. In many ways, Pawel became the “face of LOT” across the pond. He collaborated with and befriended many prominent figures in Polish culture, including musicians, actors, artists, journalists, writers, and politicians. He was a familiar and friendly face at Kennedy Airport, as well as at 500 Fifth Avenue, always smiling and helping travelers have the most fulfilling experience.
Though he escaped martial law in Poland, he remained a loyal patriot to his country. His home was always in two places, as he split time between his native Poland and his adopted home of New York. He considered himself a true New Yorker, and loved playing tour guide to out-of-town visitors. While in Warsaw, he never gave up on freedom, marching regularly in peaceful rallies and demonstrations. In recent years he spent countless days surrounded by his grandchildren, and the peaceful beauty of the Green Mountain state of Vermont.
Paweł was known for his optimistic outlook, sense of humor, laid back demeanor, and deep appreciation for life. He cherished his family and friends and found joy in skiing, travel, music, film, and sports. In his life Paweł faced unimaginable challenges, but he always chose to live with dignity and hope. His resilience and love left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Ela and Asia are overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and support they have received from friends and family. It is an honor to feel that so many people saw the goodness in our Pawel that we knew so well. His grandchildren miss him with all their hearts. We will love him forever.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 29th at 2:00PM at the Union Church of Pocantico Hills in Tarrytown, NY, followed by a burial at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
A second celebration of Paweł's life will be held in Warsaw in the coming weeks; details will follow.
After: All are welcome to Keith and Joanna's Home in Pleasantville
