James Joseph Santos, age 76, of Queens, NY, passed away suddenly on December 31, 2025, at his home away from home in Atlantic City.
Born on February 24, 1949, in Manhattan, NY, to Marina Lopez and Luis Santos, Jimmy—as he was affectionately known—was admired for his humor, blunt honesty, and unforgettable personality. While he was known for not being able to keep a secret, those closest to him will remember his softer heart in recent years and his deep love for his grandchildren.
Jimmy graduated from Palm Memorial High School in New York City and, in his early years, worked for Carvel and Mays Department Store. He married for the first time in 1967 and welcomed his two passionate daughters, Lynette and Almarene, who will forever cherish his love for playing dominoes and spades, visiting racetracks, listening to Motown and disco music, going to drive‑in movie theaters, and watching Saturday Night Fever. Through his second marriage, he was blessed with his oldest son, James Paul Santos.
Later, Jimmy dedicated over 25 years of service as a “San Man” at Garage BK-9 for the Department of Sanitation of New York (DSNY). He was respected for his expertise, mentorship, and camaraderie, earning the admiration of colleagues and friends alike.
Beyond his professional life, Jimmy worked hard to be a better family man. He married his beloved wife, Maria, in 1989, and together they recently celebrated 36 wonderful years of marriage on December 22, 2025. He took immense pride in being a grandfather, always looking for an opportunity to spoil his grandkids. His favorite moments included coaching youth baseball, cheering for his Mets and Jets, striking it rich in Atlantic City, debating politics, enjoying a plate of chicken or veal parm, sharing the latest Facebook gossip, and most of all, watching his grandchildren grow.
James is survived by his loving wife, Maria Santos; daughters Lynette B. Perez and Almarene J. Jusino; sons James P. Santos, Justin D. Santos, and Steven J. Santos; as well as his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marina Lopez and Luis Santos.
Jimmy’s legacy of love, laughter, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
